Summertime!

It's finally summer. We've been waiting and waiting for warm summer days so we can be on the lake, grilling meals on the Weber, and enjoying lots of visits from family and friends. While spring came fairly early this year, summer has been slower to arrive. I'm not complaining - I loved the cooler spring days and nights, when there weren't any mosquitoes or deer flies. But now it's July - time for summer!

I'm reminded of a song from "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" where Snoopy sings

It's suppertime. (click to hear the song on YouTube)
Yeah, it's suppertime.
Oh, it's sup-sup suppertime very best time of day.

Br-r-ing on the dog food, bring on the boneBring on the barrel and roll me home'Cause it's supperSupper, supper, supperSupperSuper, pepper upperSupperSuper duper suppertime

But in my mind I hear these lyrics:
It's summertime,
Yeah, it's summertime.
Oh, it's sum-sum-summertime very best time of year.

Bring on the boating, bring on the sun,
Bring all the grandkids, it's fun, fun, fun!
'Cause it's summer,
Summer, summer, summer,
Summer,
The best time ever!
Summer
Sum - sum Summertime!

Enjoy a few pictures of our summer so far.

Special Visitor

Last Saturday morning when we got up and looked outside, we saw that we had a special visitor on our dock. We had seen him in the nieghborhood visiting other parts of the lake shore, but it was the first time we had been privileged to see him at our house. He stayed for quite a while, just sitting quietly, not saying much (probably looking for breakfast.) But when he left, the dock looked strangely empty, and we realized just what a gift we had just been given.

An afternoon on the lake is good medicine

This morning was a good morning. We went to church, and it was a good time of worship. We stayed for Snack Attack - a time for coffee, snacks and fellowship. That was good too. So I couldn't figure out, after coming home, why I was feeling blue. I told Craig about it - and he suggested that we have a picnic lunch out on the boat. We packed up some sandwich stuff, pop and chips. We put on our bathing suits, grabbed towels, books, and our inflatable kayak and put it all in the boat. We got Percy too, and headed out onto the lake. We puttered around the lake, and then stopped out in the middle to drift. It was a wonderfully relaxing afternoon - and it really lifted my spirits.

If you're feeling down today:
1) tell someone
2)ask them to help you find something to do that is different from your normal routine
3)go outside and get some fresh air, sunshine, and exercise
4)start counting your blessings - make a list of them, big and small -and thank God for them all.
It worked for me, and it can work for you.
