Five Minute Friday: Remember

Today I'm linking up to  gypsy mama, for Five Minute Friday.
Only five minutes to write "For fun, for love of the sound of words, for play, for delight, for joy and celebration at the art of communication."
And the rule is that whatever you write about in that five minutes is what you post. No editing your thoughts. Today, her topic choice is "Remember....."

Ready. Set. Go......
I remember my dad...
working Christmas Eve morning, and then going shopping for presents before coming home. My brother and I would be anxiously waiting for him to come home. We knew that our family would open presents when dad got home. It always seemed to take so long... and then he'd arrive, bags in hand. And then we'd wait some more while he wrapped his presents...
I remember my dad...
waiting at night, watching for my mom to come home from work after dark, making sure that she was safe as she walked from the garage to the house.
I remember my dad...
taking care of my mom each time she had a sever bout of depression. He was so faithful to her. When she ended up in the nursing home next to their senior apartment building he would go twice a day to spend time with her, tuck her into bed at night, and pull the shades.
I remember my dad...
saying, "be careful!" each time I left home. I would say, "I love you too!" because I knew that's what he was really saying.
I remember my dad....
asking, "Do you need anything?" even when he was almost out of money he'd say that to me. And I would say, "not right now, but thanks!"
I remember my dad...
singing in the church choir, and the men's quartet. He had the most wonderful baritone voice.
I remember my dad...
bringing us a drink of water at night when my brother and I were growing up. Sometimes he'd make a game of it, bringing us hot water, or an empty cup. Then he'd tell us a story before saying good night.
I remember my dad...
making up stories about the indian, Falling Rock as we drove through the mountains on vacations.
I remember my dad... and I miss him...but I know that I will see him again in heaven because
I remember my dad...
and his faith in Jesus, His Savior.

Ah...this really touched my heart. Such beautiful words about a man who, no doubt, had a truly beautiful, Christ-filled heart....a man who in so many ways, reminded me of my own father. I miss him, too, but praise God for the blessed hope we have in and through Jesus.

Beautiful post!
