Check out my new blog

I have decided to start a new blog - not because I am such a great blogger, but because I want to share my love of books. This year you may have noticed that I have been writing book reviews often in this blog. In the future my book reviews will be written in my new blog, Once Upon a Book. I will also try to share some of my favorite books, and maybe other thoughts and resources about reading. I look forward to hearing from you, too, as you share with me your favorite books.

Happy Anniversary,Craig!

Today is our 31st anniversary. Craig is on the road somewhere in Iowa and I am at home. We have spent many anniversaires together, but also quite a few apart as Craig's job as an independent truck operator often takes him far from home. That doesn't mean, however, that we haven't celebrated our love for each other - because we have. We do. Every time we're together we celebrate our love. We enjoy each other's company. We laugh, we talk, we work together. We share our thoughts and dreams, joys and sorrows, successes, failures, fears, and aspirations. Sure, every June we go out to eat to "celebrate" our anniversary - but really, the celebration happens every day we are together.
I am so thankful for Craig. He works so hard to support our family. He loves me unconditionally. He makes me feel beautiful. He loves God and prays for me and for our family. He shares with me the things God shows him from His Word and the world around us.
Is Craig perfect? No,but neither am I. We are much better together. We balance each other. I am cautious - he shoots from the hip. I like to plan what we are going to do, he wants to start and figure things out along the way. I am fearful, he is not- except for hospitals :) I am more sedentary, he is a mover. I read the directions, he puts everything together.
Thank you,God, for the past 31 years of marriage - I pray that you will bless us with many more, but I will continue to celebrate each day with the wonderful man who won my heart long long ago and who is my best friend and lover.
Happy anniversary, Craig!

Answered Prayer

I've got a job! You might remember that early this spring I found out that I was going to be laid off at the end of this school year. The district I work for is closing two schools, and I was on the bottom of the seniority list.
Craig and I have been praying about this for months - should I look for another job, should we sell our house and move up north, should we sell the house and buy a bigger truck so we could go on the road together? What do you want us to do, God? I just kept feeling that he was saying, "Wait."
In the begining of May I saw a job posting for an elementary secretary in the district I live in. I applied for the job - and waited. After Memorial Day I finally got a call to interview. On the last day with all the staff at my current day the principal called and offered me the job. I am sad to leave my new friends - I've only been at this school for a year. But I am excited about my new job - closer to home, in a district with, maybe, a little more security. I knew that God directed me to my current job, and I am confident that He is taking me to a new place where He wants me to be.
Thank you, God!

The gift of true friends

I just finished the book, Sisterchicks in Wooden Shoes by Robin Jones Gunn. You must read it! The book is about a woman who receives news that the results of her mammogram are abnormal. She makes a quick decision to visit her pen pal in Holland before dealing with the possibility of breast cancer.
Pen pals since fourth grade, the two women, Summer and Noelle, have never met face-to-face.
Through decades of heart-level correspondence, they have sustained a deep friendship. A week of adventure helps both women trade anxiety for a renewed and deeper trust in God. When Summer confides in Noelle about the abnormal medical report, Noelle finds the freedom to share a long-held heartache, and both women discover they needed each other more than they realized.
Robin Jones Gunn writes with such a positive, humorous style.
I encourage you to read this book, share it with a friend, and cherish your own friendships.
