Tell me again...

I heard this song on the radio this week - Tell Me Again
(Words and Music by Geoff Moore and Steven Curtis Chapman)

Each verse ends with this line:  The God of the past is still God today. And then it goes into the chorus:

Chorus
So tell me again of the old, old stories.
Tell me again of the faithful who walked,
In the lions' den and the fiery furnace,
Of Noah and rainbows and donkeys that talked.
I don't want to forget so please, tell me again.

I thought about all the Bible stories I learned as a child, the same stories I told to our kids and the kids I taught at church. Those Bible stories are so very important... but the stories shouldn't end there.
The song goes on:

Bridge
How the God of the ages,
Turned history's pages and saw my need.
Tell me again of the shepherds and wise men,
And the star that would lead them to the baby who was born,
So that we could be born again.

Second Chorus
Tell me again of the Gospel story.
Tell me again how the whole world was lost.
How the Only Begotten with grace so amazing,
Gave up His life on an old rugged cross.
I don't want to forget so please, tell me
Tell me again of the old, old stories.
Tell me again of the faithful who walked.
How the Only Begotten, with grace so amazing,
Gave up His life on an old rugged cross.
I don't want to forget so please, tell me again.
I dont' want to forget, so please, tell me again.

We need to share with our children how those stories, those words of Scripture have changed our lives.
We also need to share stories about how God has worked in our own lives. Our kids, our grand kids, our church kids, our neighbors, our co-workers need to hear that the God of the past is still God today.

We need to tell the stories to our family and friends of how:
  • God gave us peace in our decision-making about selling our house.
  • God protected Craig when he was trucking by sending a young man in a car to lead him out of a snow-drifted road.
  • I prayed from January - June when I found out my job was ending at the end of the school year, and that I was offered a new job at a new school on the last day of classes.
  • Jeff's brothers and friends gathered around him in the emergency room and prayed for him after he got hurt playing hockey, and when the doctor came back he had good news.
  • God provided a job for Brenton.
  • God waited for my brother to come home from Japan to see Dad before He took Dad home to heaven.
  • And many more stories of God's presence and provision in our lives.

The God of the past is still God today. The God that led His people out of Egypt to the Promised Land is leading us in our lives. (Exodus, Deuteronomy) The God who provided food for the people in the desert, provides for our needs. (Exodus 16) The God who met Paul on the road to Damascus, meets us where we're at and changes our lives forever. (Acts 9) The God who freed Peter from prison frees us from our fears and guilt and those things that entangle us. (Acts 12) These are just a few examples of the many, many Bible stories and how we can apply them to our own lives.

What are your stories?

Everyone loves a good story. So share the best stories of all - the old, old stories from God's Word, and the new stories of God's presence in your life!

Actually, both times we moved we felt God's leading and provision - His peace. The second time (most recent) Dad was sad to leave the farm, but had peace about the decision too.
