Picture Frame Bookends

This pair of bookends only cost me $2 - because I already had scraps of wood, glue and spraypaint at home. I bought the wooden frames at Michael's for $1 each. They are approximately 6.5 x 8.5 inches - for a 4 x 6 picture.

First I found some wood scraps. I used 2x4s - and cut two pieces for each frame. The first was an inch shorter than the height of the frame (brace), and the second was 2 1/2 inches shorter than the width (for the base). The base piece butts up to the brace.
Next I nailed the brace to the base, and then glued the frame to both. (I just had to make sure to glue them on opposite sides of each frame so that they would work on each end of the row.) After the glue dried I spray paintedeach bookend black.

When the paint was dry I added some non-skid felt pieces to the bottom, put a picture in each frame and put them to work holding up books.

These bookends would also look cute with some embellishments on the frames too, don't you think?
